MICHAEL F. MERRA
Michael F. Merra

Michael F. Merra has been practicing law in Nashua, New Hampshire for more than 25 years. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1985 and the New Hampshire Bar in 1986. He is also admitted to the U.S. Federal District Court, District of New Hampshire. He was educated at the University of Notre Dame (B.A. Psychology 1981) and the New England School of Law (J.D. Cum Laude 1985) where he served as an Editor on the Law Review.

Immediately following graduation, Mr. Merra accepted a one-year appointment as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the New Hampshire Superior Court. Upon completion of his clerkship, Mr. Merra entered private practice where his practice over more than two decades has focused on representing individuals and corporations in civil litigation, with an emphasis in the areas of personal injury law, commercial and construction litigation, insurance law and workers' compensation. Mr. Merra has also represented a number of banking and governmental institutions including RBS Citizens Bank, Ocean Bank, Peoples United Bank, Hampshire First Bank, Bank of New England, Eastern Bank, Sovereign Bank, Banc One, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Resolution Trust Corporation.

Mr. Merra has litigated numerous cases in both the district and superior courts of New Hampshire as well as before various administrative agencies.  He has presented oral argument in multiple cases before the New Hampshire Supreme Court.  He has served on committees of the New Hampshire Bar Association and has served as a member of the Town of Amherst Ways and Means Committee and the Merrimack Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  He has also served as President of the Board of Directors of the Greater Nashua Child Care Center, Inc.  He is a former President of the New Hampshire Notre Dame Alumni Association.  He is also an avid runner having recently competed in several marathons including the Boston Marathon (3:05) and Minneapolis (Twin Cities) Marathon (3:06).   He is currently the Boys Varsity Cross Country Coach at Nashua High School South.  He is a USATF Certified Track & Field Coach and in 2001 founded the Granite State Flash, a Junior Olympic Cross Country running program www.GraniteStateFlash.com where his teams captured three National Junior Olympic titles (2005, 2006 & 2008). 

Mr. Merra lives in Amherst, New Hampshire with his wife, Cathy, who is a cross country coach at Merrimack High School as well as a nationally ranked masters runner.  They have two children, Anthony (Columbia University) and Christopher (U.S. Navy). 

MARK D. KANAKIS
Mark D. Kanakis
Mark D. Kanakis has been practicing law in New Hampshire since 1985. Previously, he was a founding partner with Merra and Kanakis (which later merged with Sullivan & Gregg, P.A.) and an associate with Winer and Bennett, P.C. He is a 1981 graduate of the University of New Hampshire and a 1985 graduate of Boston University Law School. Mr. Kanakis was admitted to the New Hampshire Bar in 1985.

Mr. Kanakis' principal areas of concentration are commercial and residential loan workouts, collections and foreclosures. He has represented banks and individuals in residential and commercial loan workouts, mortgage foreclosures and creditor bankruptcy for over 20 years. Mr. Kanakis' practice has also included real estate and landlord/tenant and lease matters. In addition, Mr. Kanakis is a title insurance agent for First American Title Insurance Company.

Mr. Kanakis an avid curler and golfer and coaches high school basketball. In 1990, he toured the then Soviet Union with the Derry, New Hampshire Men's Basketball Team. Mr. Kanakis is married to Debbie Kanakis, and has three children: Allison, Nicholas, and Emily.
